You don't get rich enough to own a Ferrari without doing a bit of coke.

As a mobile phone redditor, I hate you for using flickr. Great pictures, by the way.

Update your RES, it now supports flickr embedding.

As another mobile phone redditor, what's the problem with Flickr? Working flawlessly in Alien Blue for me, and allowed to seamlessly look through the rest of his Flickr photos. The man has skill behind the lens ;)

These are awesome! Every one is wallpaper-quality. I just wish I could get my hands on the orignal size versions.

I'll be honest, I'm more interested in the photography than the cars. The one with the California headlight and the rows of F430s are really nice. Love the lighting. Mind I ask what camera and lens you're using? And camera settings in the pics? I'm currently using a Sony A350 with the 18-70 kit lens. Thinking of investing in a new lens. Any suggestions?

[–]bcq415 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's all about the lenses. I assume you have just the 18-55 kit lense. Invest in a 50 f/1.8 and your picture quality will increase by a large margin

[–]aislandlies 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

ok thank you, im going to assume that 50mm and f is frame rates?

[–]Francoisxg 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

f/1.8 refers to the relative aperture. This is how to measure how "open" the lens is. Low numbers let in a lot of light, meaning you can take pictures at higher shutter speeds or in lower lighting conditions without sacrificing ISO. Normal you would have to increase ISO, and this makes photos grainy.

[–]aislandlies 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He's absolutely right when he says a 50 f/1.8 is an incredible lens, however, I don't think it's the most conducive lens to improve your automotive photography.

The fixed zoom can make it kind of difficult.

[–]aislandlies 0 points1 point ago

Is it really that big of a difference? That's not even much of an investment, I'm seeing about 110 most places.

[–]CharlieXLS 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes. It's a poorly-made plastic lens but it offers excellent contrast, color rendition, and sharpness above f/3.2 or so.

[–]Sub116610Click here to edit flair 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Invest in a 1.8? 1.8 if youre on a real tight budget. Otherwise, invest in the 1.4 or 1.2

[–]bcq415 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He has a t3i so odds are those really arent within the amount of money he would spend on camera gear. If he had a 5d mk II the story would be different

[–]Sub116610Click here to edit flair 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The 1.4 is less than $400.

A lot of people have problems with the 1.8s breaking given their complete plastic construction. I say save up! Youre essentially telling him to get a kit [quality] lens. People dont say kit lens are bad because they dont produce cool effects or are poor in some scenarios, they say it because of the less quality of images it produces. At least thats what Ive come to believe.

Most photographers have a set of lenses that cost more than the body.

If you haven't read it already, I highly recommend reading Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. I bought that book a few days after getting my first DSLR in 2007 (Rebel XTi) and I feel that it gave me a really good knowledge base to build from .

[–]OverlordXenu 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

A better camera will not make your images better. Just get some photo books. Photography is all about light, composition, and subject matter. To paraphrase Gilles Peress, there must be a struggle between the form and the subject. But the subject should always win.

Take your camera and one lens, and go on an adventure. A walk. Visit friends. Visit family. Something. Just go and shoot and keep shooting. And try to figure out what works and what doesn't. Critique yourself.

Also, learn how to expose. IMO a good Sekonic and a manual camera (or in M mode) is the best way to learn exposure. Put it in reflective mode, point it at the shadows, and go.

I worked at an independent Ferrari re-seller and shop. Was not nearly as glamorous as shown in these pictures. The shop was dirty and loud. :)

We did have one of the Enzos when they first came out, though. Pictures don't do that car justice.

You want impressive? Check out Aston Martin service facilities. All white, and not a drop of oil anywhere in the room. After your car is done, the service manager checks the inside of the engine bay with a white glove to make sure there aren't any spills/stains/dirt/grime where it shouldn't be.
